(JW Insights) Nov 20 -- Chinese auto giant Changan Automobile plans to launch eight self-developed battery cells by 2030, including liquid, semi-solid, and solid-state cells, with a total battery capacity of no less than 150 GWh, the company announced on November 17 at the 2023 Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition.

Changan Automobile’s first CTV (Cell to Chassis) technology will begin mass production in 2024 to achieve a grouping efficiency of ≥86%. Furthermore, it plans to expand its battery R&D team to 3,000 members by 2024 from the current 1,200 staff, with a planned investment of RMB10 billion ($1.39 billion).

Recently, the Changan Avita 12, the EV models under Changan Auto’s Avita brands, was officially launched as its first sedan, priced between RMB300,800 and RMB400,800 ($41,906-$55,837).

Avita 12 adopts CATL’s customized high-performance and high-safety ternary lithium battery cells, balancing spaciousness and battery range. Together with the 750V full-stack high-voltage fast charging platform equipped in all Avita 12 models, it can charge from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

Avita 12 is the second product of the CHN intelligent electric vehicle technology platform, which was jointly developed by Changan Automobile, Huawei, and CATL.

Within 36 hours of its launch, Avita 12 received over 6,700 pre-orders, with over 11,128 pre-orders accumulated within 72 hours. The average order price exceeds RMB350,000 ($48,760), and more than half of the customers are from the post-90s generation.
