MIIT: China's IC output and export drops 14.8% and 13.5% respectively in the first quarter of 2023

(JW Insights) May 5 -- China's integrated circuits (IC) output fell 14.8% year-on-year to 72.2 billion units in the first quarter of 2023, showed data released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on May 4.

China's IC exports in the same period totaled 60.9 billion units, down 13.5% year-on-year.

During the same period, the electronics and IT manufacturing sector above the designated size also experienced a year-on-year decline of 1.1% in added value and a 6.4% drop in revenue to RMB 3.24 trillion ($470 billion).

Among the main products, mobile phone production in Q1 reached 331 million units, with smartphone of 239 million units, marking a 13.8% year-on-year decline. Meanwhile, microcomputer equipment saw a 22.5% drop in production to 79 million units.

In the first quarter, the delivery value of electronic information manufacturing sector above the designated size decreased by 10.5% year-on-year.

Exports of laptop reached 29.33 million units, a year-on-year decline of 38.1%. The country's mobile phone exports also decreased by 12.3% year-on-year to 172 million units, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC).
